Death penalty or capital punishment in most countries is only awarded for the most heinous of crimes. This act of murder sanctioned by the State is most often justified on the assumption that it acts as a deterrent against violent crime. India and America are two of the largest democratic nations where death penalty is still prevalent. Other countries where death penalty is prevalent include Saudi Arabia, China, Egypt and many others. Methods used for death penalty include lethal injections, electrocution but in most countries hanging till death. DNA evidence and investigations have revealed that the accused was innocent and racial, religious and caste bias often have played a role in awarding death penalty.
