Keeping Track of Modi's Government in India: 1 1/2 Years
More Info
Narendra Modi's government came to power in May 2014. Modi and his party Bhartiya Janata Party have often been involved in raising communal fervour and violence against minority communities. It was under Narendra Modi's regime in Gujarat in 2002 that pogroms and riots took place. The party also pushes a conservative and repressive agenda on all movements for self-determination especially in Kashmir and the North East. Ostensibly the Modi government has made promises to be pro-farmer and pro-people but several of its economic and legal policy for land reform indicate otherwise. At the same time the Modi government is actively repressing dissent by the people through incarceration and banning, and also by choking on the sustainability of several non profit initiatives by blocking access to foreign funds. Has one year of Modi's government delivered on the promises that were made and what has it meant for those most vulnerable, most poor and disenfranchised.
