Protests Against Rape in Kenya
More Info
On October 29, 2013, Kenyans took to the streets of Nairobi to demand justice for a 16-year-old gang-rape victim. The teenager, known publically as Liz, was beaten, raped, and left injured and unconscious in a sewage ditch. Her suspected attackers were ordered by authorities to cut the police station lawn as punishment for the crime. The lenient sentence has sparked outrage throughout the country, and has drawn worldwide attention to the problem of rape in Kenya and the enforcement of laws surrounding it.
