2014 Presidential Election in El Salvador
More Info
Presidential elections in El Salvador have been called in favor of leftist former guerilla leader Salvador Sánchez Ceren with a majority of just 0.2%. The nearly negligible margin of victory in the contentious race between Sanchez Ceren and his conservative opponent has resulted in accusations of fraud. Opponents of Sanchez Ceren’s party, the National Liberation Front (FMNL), have promised to contest the vote, threatening to bring their complaint before the Supreme Court if necessary. A Salvadorean court will not officially declare a president until appeals against the electoral process are resolved.
