Uganda's Walk to Work Protests
More Info
On April 11th, Ugandan opposition leader Kizza Besigye called for a Walk-to-Work protest to draw attention to soaring food and fuel prices. Although the initial protest did not attract many supporters, attention to his cause skyrocketed when he was met with Ugandan security forces in full riot gear, who abused the protesters. Since then, walk-to-work campaigns have spread throughout the country and have often been met with violence. Besigye has since been placed under house arrest.
