Anti-government Protests in Iraq
More Info
The peaceful protests that tens of thousands of Iraqi Sunnis have been waging against the Shia dominated government for the past four months ended in violence by security forces, leaving almost 56 people dead. Protesters have been demonstrating against the Iraqi Shia Prime Minister’s alleged discriminatory government. On April 19, 2013, protesters seized the city of al-Hawijah and four days later security forces used armed violence to put an end to the camp protest. Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki denies all accusations made against him.
