Workers' Rights Violations in Bangladesh
More Info
The Bangladeshi government has failed to uphold and protect the rights of its workers. It has prohibited workers from unionizing and have created an environment that makes it impossible for the workers to refuse to work in hazardous conditions. Global companies, such as Walmart and Gap, that profit from Bangladesh’s cheap labor have failed to take action against the inhumane conditions that these individuals are compelled to work within. In April 2013, a factory collapse resulted in the deaths of over 300 individuals. Protest against dangerous working conditions erupted in Bangladesh, coupled with solidarity rallies around the world.
