Women's Rights in Iraq

More Info
Women in the post-Saddam Iraq face multiple challenges, some of which affect all Iraqis like lack of services and dangers due to terrorism and U.S occupation, but also challenges unique to women. These include the increased burden on women to support their families due to the husband's death or arrest, a new Iraqi constitution that bases itself on "Islamic Law" and restricts women's rights, insufficient political representation, and traditions such as female genital mutilation and "honor" crimes (which sexual minority groups encounter as well).
