Government Repression in Venezuela

More Info
Discontent in Venezuela has grown following the narrow election of President Nicolas Maduro in April 2013. Government policies that violate the fundamental rights of the people, the frustration of the opposition at their exclusion from meaningful roles in the government, and widespread discontent over the issues of crime, high inflation, and shortages of basic goods, have created violent rallies of thousands in the streets. The demonstrations, which have been increasing in intensity since February 2014, have left Maduro struggling to contain swelling dissent among Venezuelans.
