Demonstrations in Haiti
Mass demonstrations erupted in Haiti during the last weekend of September 2012. Citizens took to the streets to protest President Michel Martelly’s government and its failure to follow through with promises to address the country's severe poverty. Haitians are outraged at the rising cost of living that has stripped them of being able to afford even the most basic goods. Law enforcement, however, cracked down on the demonstrations by firing live rounds and throwing tear gas at the protesters. More
