Millions of Egyptians protested on June 30 2013, calling for the ouster of President Mohammed Morsi. The date marks the one-year anniversary of Morsi's inauguration, and was chosen by opposition group "Tamarod" to as a day to demonstrate against the perceived ineffectiveness of Egypt's democratically-elected leader. The resulting unrest begat both the military removal of President Morsi, the installation of an interim government, and an amended constitution. The overthrow, regarded by many as little more than a military coup, has been decried as undemocratic, and a secular witch-hunt against Morsi's party, the Muslim Brotherhood. The Muslim Brotherhood has since been declared illegal in Egypt, and banned from all political arenas. The marginalized Islamist group continues to fight for influence and recognition in Egypt, and justice for its jailed members, including Mohammed Morsi.
