Protests throughout Spain erupted on the 15th of May ahead of municipal elections on Sunday the 22nd of May with demonstrators highlighting lack of opportunities for youth and high unemployment rate, up to 50% for youth.The protests has been referred to as the 15-M Movement or Indignados (Spanish for outraged), voicing outrage at the perceived lack of relevance of the political parties and frustration at the failure of their political parties. Protesters spent days camped out of main squares of cities across Spain until election day, May 22 even though protests were banned the day before the election.
