Mass protests broke in Tunisia following the self-immolation of an unemployed college graduate Mohamed Bouazizi in the city of Sidi Bou Zid. The protests following this desperate act spread across Tunisia despite the harsh reaction from the regime, whose forces used live rounds against protesters. Some of the arrested during the riots were tortured by the Tunisian police. Following the protests the regime has intensified its online censorship and filtering, making it even harder for activists to send information out of Tunisia.
